Geothermal Drilling Engineer — Deep Bore

Plan and supervise deep-bore geothermal wells in high-temperature formations, where the well design problem is thermal as much as it is mechanical. Closed-loop configuration work is a standing part of the programme.

— The work

What the role is responsible for.

  • Produce well designs, drilling programmes, and casing schemes for high-temperature targets.
  • Supervise drilling operations on site and act as company representative when assigned.
  • Own well control planning and the associated hazard assessment.
  • Manage contractor performance against the programme and against safety expectations.
  • Analyse each completed well and feed the result into the next design.
— Required

What we need you to bring.

  • Seven or more years in drilling engineering, with high-temperature or geothermal exposure.
  • Current well control certification.
  • Experience supervising rig operations directly, not only from an office.
  • Working knowledge of the geomechanics of hot, fractured formations.
  • Fitness for field rotation and offshore-standard survival training where required.
— Preferred

Useful, not essential.

  • Closed-loop or enhanced geothermal system experience.
  • Icelandic or Nordic operating experience.
  • Background in casing design for cyclic thermal loading.

We read the preferred list as a description of a useful background, not a checklist. Candidates who meet the required list and none of the preferred are regularly hired.

— The team

Who you would be joining.

The Reykjavík group runs the deep-bore programme and supports geothermal delivery across EMEA. Rotation is worked on a published pattern with recovery time built in.

— Conditions

What to know before you apply.

Rotation pattern and recovery entitlement are set out in the offer before you accept.

All candidates undergo comprehensive vetting. Reasonable accommodation is available at any stage — say so in your first note and it will be arranged. We do not use unverified third-party recruiters, and we never ask a candidate for a fee.
